Kerkida.net is Cyprus’ leading sports news platform, providing coverage on breaking sports events, news, exclusively commentary and videos, as a comprehensive hub for all sports fanatics. It’s become well-known and recognised for its engaging and thorough content, while also allowing fans to personalise their experience by following their favourite teams and receiving tailored updates. As a go-to destination for sports enthusiasts in Cyprus, the development of a mobile application was the next stage to Kerkida’s all-encompassing journey.
The Project
To bring Kerkida’s dynamic coverage to mobile devices, we developed a cross-platform application for Android and iOS using React Native, as it allowed us to create a native-like experience, where users could quickly navigate through breaking news, videos and live scores. React Native was ideal in allowing us to create a highly responsive, scalable and efficient sports news app, while pushing out a large quantity of high-performing content across both platforms with minimal effort and dynamic handling.
The app’s backend leveraged Firebase, offering real-time data synchronisation, live updates and notifications, in order to keep up with the needs of sports fans. Firebase Cloud Storage was also implemented for serving high-quality images and videos, while REST APIs ensured efficient communication between the frontend and backend systems, and thus providing a smooth, seamless experience to users.
Push notifications were implemented via Firebase Cloud Messaging to provide users with instant updates on scores, team news and breaking developments, and always keeping them on the loop about anything important as it happens, gaining the trust of sports fans across the board.
