Digital TV is a premier entertainment platform in Cyprus, offering access to more than 50 global TV channels, live sports, documentaries, music and movies. With cutting-edge technology, a comprehensive content library and a strong focus to providing both live and on-demand content, the platform always aims to deliver a seamless viewing experience to its users. The development of a mobile application was the next step to meeting the platform’s mission, goals and objectives across an expansive audience.
The Project
The mobile app for Digital TV was developed for both iOS and Android. The app was designed with the primary intention of offering users high-quality streaming through a mobile device, ensuring a premium entertainment experience. We utilised React Native for cross-platform development, enabling a unified and responsive app across both operating systems.
The app also incorporates HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) that establishes smooth, high-performance streaming of live channels and on-demand content, while AWS was employed to host video content and manage scalable storage, particularly during high-traffic events like live sports broadcasts. We implemented REST APIs to enable seamless communication between the app’s front end and the backend infrastructure, providing real-time updates for a better user experience.
React Native proved to be the perfect choice, as it allowed for efficient development across both platforms, while maintaining native-like functionality. Also, given the need for a highly responsive and cross-platform solution, React Native helped minimise overhead while offering a fast, reliable and engaging experience to all users.
